than having to remove them. Excellent oral hygiene, including daily brushing and flossing, can help you avoid the majority of stains. Visit the dentist to have your teeth cleaned at least twice a year.<\/p>\n\n<p>Another great way to prevent stained teeth is by avoiding certain foods and drinks or brushing immediately after enjoying them. Examples include red wine, coffee and soda drinks. Tobacco use can quickly and permanently stain teeth and is also bad for your health, so kick the habit as quickly as possible.<\/p><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><div class=\"x-section e363-29 ma3-0 ma3-3 ma3-7 ma3-8\"><div class=\"x-row x-container max width e363-30 ma3-f ma3-h\"><div class=\"x-row-inner\"><div class=\"x-col e363-31 ma3-i\"><div class=\"x-text x-text-headline e363-32 ma3-k ma3-m ma3-n ma3-o\"><div class=\"x-text-content\"><div class=\"x-text-content-text\"><h2 class=\"x-text-content-text-primary\">Have a Toothache?<\/h2><\/div><\/div><\/div><div class=\"x-text e363-33 ma3-t\">First, thoroughly rinse your mouth with warm water. Remove any lodged food with dental floss. Apply a cold compress to the outside of your mouth or cheek if your mouth feels swollen. Avoid put aspirin or any other painkiller against the gums near the aching tooth, it may irritate the gum tissue. Start by rinsing your mouth and any broken pieces with warm water. If there\u2019s bleeding, apply pressure with a piece of gauze to the area for about 10 minutes or until the bleeding stops. A cold compress on your cheek or lip near the broken\/chipped tooth will help keep any swelling down and should relieve pain. Call our office as soon as possible to see the dentist.<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><div class=\"x-section e363-39 ma3-0 ma3-3 ma3-7 ma3-8\"><div class=\"x-row x-container max width e363-40 ma3-f ma3-h\"><div class=\"x-row-inner\"><div class=\"x-col e363-41 ma3-i\"><div class=\"x-text x-text-headline e363-42 ma3-k ma3-m ma3-n ma3-o\"><div class=\"x-text-content\"><div class=\"x-text-content-text\"><h2 class=\"x-text-content-text-primary\">Knocked-out Tooth<\/h2><\/div><\/div><\/div><div class=\"x-text e363-43 ma3-t\">Recover the tooth, hold it by the crown and rinse off the tooth root with water if it\u2019s dirty. Leave any attached tissue fragments. If possible, try to put the tooth back in place. Make sure it\u2019s facing the right way. Never force it into the socket. If it\u2019s not possible to reinsert the tooth in the socket, put the tooth in a small container of milk (or cup of water that contains a pinch of table salt, if milk is not available) or a product containing cell growth medium, such as Save-a-Tooth. In all cases, see your dentist as quickly as possible. Knocked out teeth with the highest chances of being saved are those seen by the dentist and returned to their socket within 1 hour of being knocked out.<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><div class=\"x-section e363-44 ma3-0 ma3-3 ma3-7 ma3-9\"><div class=\"x-row x-container max width e363-45 ma3-f ma3-h\"><div class=\"x-row-inner\"><div class=\"x-col e363-46 ma3-i\"><div class=\"x-text x-text-headline e363-47 ma3-k ma3-m ma3-n ma3-o\"><div class=\"x-text-content\"><div class=\"x-text-content-text\"><h2 class=\"x-text-content-text-primary\">Extruded (Partially Dislodged) Tooth<\/h2><\/div><\/div><\/div><div class=\"x-text e363-48 ma3-t\">See your dentist right away. Until you reach your dentist\u2019s office, to relieve pain, apply a cold compress to the outside of the mouth or cheek in the affected area. Take an over-the-counter pain reliever (such as Tylenol or Advil) if needed.<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><div class=\"x-section e363-49 ma3-0 ma3-3 ma3-7 ma3-8\"><div class=\"x-row x-container max width e363-50 ma3-f ma3-h\"><div class=\"x-row-inner\"><div class=\"x-col e363-51 ma3-i\"><div class=\"x-text x-text-headline e363-52 ma3-k ma3-m ma3-n ma3-o\"><div class=\"x-text-content\"><div class=\"x-text-content-text\"><h2 class=\"x-text-content-text-primary\">Lost Filling<\/h2><\/div><\/div><\/div><div class=\"x-text e363-53 ma3-t\">As a temporary measure, stick a piece of sugarless gum into the cavity (sugar-filled gum will cause pain) or use an over-the-counter dental cement. See your dentist as soon as possible.<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><div class=\"x-section e363-54 ma3-0 ma3-3 ma3-7 ma3-9\"><div class=\"x-row x-container max width e363-55 ma3-f ma3-h\"><div class=\"x-row-inner\"><div class=\"x-col e363-56 ma3-i\"><div class=\"x-text x-text-headline e363-57 ma3-k ma3-m ma3-n ma3-o\"><div class=\"x-text-content\"><div class=\"x-text-content-text\"><h2 class=\"x-text-content-text-primary\">Lost Crown<\/h2><\/div><\/div><\/div><div class=\"x-text e363-58 ma3-t\">If the crown falls off, make an appointment to see your dentist as soon as possible and bring the crown with you. If you can\u2019t get to the dentist right away and the tooth is causing pain, use a cotton swab to apply a little clove oil to the sensitive area (clove oil can be purchased at your local drug store or in the spice aisle of your grocery store). If possible, slip the crown back over the tooth. Before doing so, coat the inner surface with an over-the-counter dental cement, toothpaste, or denture adhesive, to help hold the crown in place. Do not use super glue!<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><div class=\"x-section e363-59 ma3-0 ma3-3 ma3-7 ma3-8\"><div class=\"x-row x-container max width e363-60 ma3-f ma3-h\"><div class=\"x-row-inner\"><div class=\"x-col e363-61 ma3-i\"><div class=\"x-text x-text-headline e363-62 ma3-k ma3-m ma3-n ma3-o\"><div class=\"x-text-content\"><div class=\"x-text-content-text\"><h2 class=\"x-text-content-text-primary\">Broken Braces Wires<\/h2><\/div><\/div><\/div><div class=\"x-text e363-63 ma3-t\">If a wire breaks or sticks out of a bracket or band and is poking your cheek, tongue or gum, try using the eraser end of a pencil to push the wire into a more comfortable position. If you can\u2019t reposition the wire, cover the end with orthodontic wax, a small cotton ball, or piece of gauze until you can get to your orthodontist\u2019s office. Never cut the wire, as you could end up swallowing it or breathing it into your lungs.<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><div class=\"x-section e363-64 ma3-0 ma3-3 ma3-7 ma3-9\"><div class=\"x-row x-container max width e363-65 ma3-f ma3-h\"><div class=\"x-row-inner\"><div class=\"x-col e363-66 ma3-i\"><div class=\"x-text x-text-headline e363-67 ma3-k ma3-m ma3-n ma3-o\"><div class=\"x-text-content\"><div class=\"x-text-content-text\"><h2 class=\"x-text-content-text-primary\">Loose Brackets and Bands<\/h2><\/div><\/div><\/div><div class=\"x-text e363-68 ma3-t\">Temporarily reattach loose braces with a small piece of orthodontic wax. Alternatively, place the wax over the braces to provide a cushion. See your orthodontist as soon as possible. If the problem is a loose band, save it and call your orthodontist for an appointment to have it recemented or replaced (and to have missing spacers replaced).<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><div class=\"x-section e363-69 ma3-0 ma3-3 ma3-7 ma3-8\"><div class=\"x-row x-container max width e363-70 ma3-f ma3-h\"><div class=\"x-row-inner\"><div class=\"x-col e363-71 ma3-i\"><div class=\"x-text x-text-headline e363-72 ma3-k ma3-m ma3-n ma3-o\"><div class=\"x-text-content\"><div class=\"x-text-content-text\"><h2 class=\"x-text-content-text-primary\">Abscess<\/h2><\/div><\/div><\/div><div class=\"x-text e363-73 ma3-t\"><p>Abscess are infections that occur around the root of a tooth or in the space between the teeth and gums.
